This course is intentionally aimed at women, over 35 years old - a minority group in the music industry. It will be taught by people who identify as being in this group also.
You will be led by Lisa Murphy, a qualified teacher who works as a professional recording, mixing engineer and music producer with over 20 years of experience in the music industry.
At AMP, we believe in personalised hands-on learning. For this reason, we keep our groups small so that everyone gets a chance to get involved with sessions.
Taught in a professional recording studio, by professional music producers, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in this environment - increasing both your knowledge and confidence in music production.
DATE: 16th & 17th November 2024
TIME: 10am - 6pm each day
LOCATION: Blank Studios, 210 Warwick Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE2 1BB
TUTORS: Lisa Murphy & Hattie Murdoch
This two day workshop is for women aged 35 years and over, based in the northeast of England, who would like to learn more about making music using music technology in a professional recording studio, Blank Studios in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Organised and delivered by music producer, Lisa Murphy, and songwriter, producer and performer, Hattie Murdoch - this bootcamp will provide skills, knowledge and practical experience in an inclusive and encouraging environment. The workshop has been specifically designed to cater for women over 35 years old, a minority group in terms of representation in the local music industry.
The aim is to give you confidence and knowledge to support your position in a studio environment - whether this is as a producer yourself or as a musician communicating with engineers and producers in the studio to achieve the vision for your music. It will also be an opportunity to ask all the questions you'd like to ask about how it all works in a safe and supportive environment and to connect you with like-minded people to widen your network of music makers in the region.
The bootcamp is open to women, over 35 years old, who are interested in learning about music production - there is no requirement for previous experience (just a desire to learn), and there is definitely no upper age limit!
On day one, we will spend time getting to know the studio environment, equipment and workflow through explanation, demonstration and practical hands-on learning.
We will look at -
Day two will see the group take over the studio, working as a team to produce an original piece of music to a set artist brief. You will be supported through the process of using the recording and production techniques that you learnt on day one to capture a full song considering the vision and influences of the artist you are working with.
The aim of this day is that you get to put your skills and knowledge into practice in a real recording and production scenario with and maybe even have something to take away and practice with afterwards at home.
